As is our tradition, we’ll begin the month of May with Communion on both Thursday, May 2 and Sunday, May 5. Scriptures for Sunday include Psalm 30; Revelation 5:11-14 and John 10:22-30. I will be preaching from Acts 9:1-20, which tells the story of Paul’s conversion on the Road to Damascus.
Mother’s Day follows on May 12. We will also be honoring our graduates. Scriptures include Acts 9:36-43; Psalm 23 and Revelation 7:9-17. My sermon text will be John 21:1-19.
Sunday, May 19 is Heritage Day in the United Methodist Church, the day when we remember when the heart of our founder, John Wesley, was “strangely warmed” as he participated in a Bible study in a Moravian chapel on Aldersgate Street in London. Scriptures include Psalm 148, Revelation 21:1-6, and John 13:31-35. My sermon will be drawn from Acts 11:1-18.
As part of my current studies, I will be attending a week-long class in Dubuque. Nonetheless, I still want you to be blessed while I am away, so on Thursday, May 23, I’ve invited a couple of folks who have ministered in Haiti to come and share their experiences with you. Shelley Ditzman will be among them. Please mark your calendar for this special event.
I’ve invited Tony Spranger to preach at both services on Sunday, May 26. Tony has served the Lord for a number of years in our community; currently he serves with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Please come and support Tony and this vital ministry to youth. Scriptures will include Acts 16:9-15; Psalm 67; Revelation 21:1-10, and John 14:23-29.
We will celebrate the Ascension of the Lord on Thursday, May 30. This will be a different service from anything which you will have experienced on Sunday. Scriptures will include Acts 1:1-11; Psalm 47; Ephesians 1:15-23 and Luke 24:44-53.
Unless otherwise announced, scriptures for the day’s liturgist will be underlined.
I’ll see you in church!
