We’ll begin April with Holy Communion on Sunday, April 7. It’s also the Fifth Sunday in Lent which is known as “Lazarus Sunday,” commemorating the resurrection of Mary and Martha’s brother in anticipation of Easter. Scriptures include Isaiah 43:16-21; Psalm 126; Philippians 3:4b-14 and John 12:1-8.
Sunday, April 14 is Palm/Passion Sunday. Liturgically, it’s a complicated Sunday as we begin the service with joyful Hosannas before moving to the Passion narrative. Please read Luke 19:28-40; Luke 22:14-23:56; Psalms 31 and 118; Isaiah 50; and Philippians 2:5-11.
Maundy Thursday is on April 18 and our regular Thursday worship service will center on the Lord’s Supper. This service will not be a repeat of Sunday’s worship experience. Communion will be served. Please take the time to read Exodus 12:1-14; Psalm 116; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 and John 13:1-17, 31b-35.
Our Good Friday service will be held at noon, Friday April 19. In the spirit of Good Friday, no meal will be served following this service. Scriptures include Isaiah 52:13-53:13; Psalm 22; Hebrews 10:16-25 and John 18 & 19.
Easter Sunday is April 21 with services at 7 and 10:30 a.m. The youth will be ministering at the sunrise service and I’ll be preaching at the 10:30 service. Scriptures include Acts 10:34-43; Psalm 118; Luke 24:1-12 and John 20. I will be serving Communion at both services. I encourage you to spend the morning with us.
Scriptures for lector/liturgists are underlined. However, readings for Easter will be determined later.
We wrap up the month on April 28 by considering Acts 5:27-32; Revelation 1:4-8; and Psalm 150. I’ll be preaching from John 20:19-31.
I’ll see you in church!
